Aureo sale 291, lot 1039
This specimen was lot 1039 in Aureo sale 291 (Barcelona, April 2017), where it sold for €1,650 (about US$2,118 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"s/d. Carlos II. Mallorca. 4 rals. Anv.: Busto a la izquierda con corona dentada, delante. (...)VS III !REX (...)GGO (V)M. Rev.: Armas de Mallorca. M(AI)ORICA(R)VM-escudito con seis besantes-CATO(...). Ordinal III por doble acuñación. Rarísima. MBC. (Majorca, Charles II, undated four reales. Obverse: crowned bust to left, four pellets before; reverse: arms of Majorca, small shield with six pellets below. Double struck, extremely rare, very fine.)"
This very scarce type was accompanied by a two reales (KM 23) and a half real (KM 21) but we don't see a one real listed. We don't really believe that this type was actually struck as early as 1665 as the king ascended the throne at the age of four. This coin should be half the weight of a peso (27.07 g) but only weighs a third.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 9,70 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón no. 7427, KM 25 (listed under Majorca rather than Spain), Cru.C.G. 4913 var.
