This type was struck for the republic of Iceland in 1946-67. Formerly a kingdom under the Danish crown, Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. The first republic coinages were one, five, ten, twenty-five aurar and one and two kronur issued in 1946. Few issues of the republic are catalogued at more than a few dollars.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 2.4 g, copper-nickel, 16 mm diameter, reeded edge.
