Ponterio sale 173, lot 1397

This specimen was lot 1397 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. Centavo, 1879. NGC EF-40 BN. RARE date." This type is known for 1878-80. Honduran coinage was locally made under very primitive conditions until the reform of 1931 which introduced the lempira. Five, ten and fifty centavos are also recorded for 1879, all rare.
