Honduras 1871 25 centavos

This specimen was lot 17249 in Heritage Auctions' sale of the Whittier collection (Long Beach, June 2006) where it sold for $69. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 25 Centavos 1871, choice lustrous AU, very lightly toned and attractive, much scarcer in grade than the SCWC would indicate." The type was struck in 1871 only, accompanied by similar five, ten, fifty centavos and one pesos. Only the twenty-five and fifty centavos were made in production quantities.
Recorded mintage: 177,000.
