This specimen was lot 50457 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $212. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. Mark, 1880-G. PCGS AU-53." This type was struck 1873-87 at nine mints; this specimen is a product of the Karlsruhe mint ("G"). In 1891, a modified eagle was introduced and this denomination was struck in that form until 1918 (see [[Germany 1899-D mark|KM 14]]).
