Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 71341

This specimen was lot 71341, in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1756-&. Aix Mint. Louis XV. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details Gold Shield. Some damage and scratches are present between 9:00 and 12:00 on the reverse, while significant handling can be seen over the surfaces. Nevertheless, an overall pleasing representation of this scarcer mint." This specimen is a louis d'or au bandeau struck at the Aix mint, one of a type struck in 1740-70. This specimen is counted as a common date.

Recorded mintage: 59,400[2].

Specification: 8.158 g, .917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge.
