Ponterio sale 168, lot 50099

This specimen was lot 50099 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $805. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'or, 1695-A. NGC VF-35. Louis XIV (1643-1715)." This type, known as a louis d'or aux 4 L, was struck 1693-1700, mostly over older coins. Twenty-four mints contributed in 1695.

Recorded mintage: numerous on "flans reformées," 60,282 on new blanks.

Specification: 6.75 g, .917 fine gold.
