This specimen was lot 24648 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Louis XIV gold Louis d'or à la mèche courte 1645-A, Paris mint, MS62 NGC. An absolutely lovely example of the young bust of Louis XIV. Attractive and bright in every way, this virtually flawless piece has incredibly crisp details and abundant, flashy luster. A premium piece and currently one of only two certified mint-state examples of this date." This ''louis d'or à la mèche courte'' is among the more available ''louis'' of Louis XIV of [[France]], being struck 1643-56. Only Lyon struck this type after 1645. This issue is priced<sup>[2]</sup> about 70% more than the commonest date of the ''mèche longue'' type (1651-A).
