Baden 1839 ducat Fr-152
This specimen was lot 30979 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $3,000. The catalog description noted, "Baden. Leopold I gold Ducat 1839 MS64 NGC. Highly lustrous with full mint brilliance. Truly a handsome handsome coin which will be a delight for the new owner." This type was struck in small numbers 1837-42. We don't know why the .938 alloy was used instead of the traditional .986 fineness. Note the backwards "1" in the date; this is seen in the whole series.
Recorded mintage: 2,448.
Specification: 3.66 g, .938 fine gold.
