This specimen was lot 20014 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. Peso, 1883. NGC MS-61. Single second finest certified of the date at NGC with only one finer (MS63). RARE in this state of preservation and the best date of the three year type. Well struck lustrous and quite attractive. From the Alex Siegel Collection." This specimen is one of a type struck 1881-83 for Argentina in its national mint, the Casa de Moneda, which was inaugurated in 1880. The type is not common but available for a price. It is accompanied by a silver ten centavos, twenty centavos and fifty centavos, all of which are considerably more common. Choice specimens are rare.
