Sincona sale 47, lot 3172
This specimen was lot 3172 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$168 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND, Stadt und Kanton Zürich, 2 Rappen 1842. PCGS MS66. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Zurich, two rappen of 1842, gem uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues. This two rappen is the only issue of this denomination. It is, fortunately for collectors, common.

Reported Mintage: 460,000.

Specification: billon.

Catalog reference: D.T. 23, HMZ 2-1177a, KM 195.
