UBS sale 83, lot 2609
This specimen was lot 2609 in UBS sale 83 (Zurich, September 2009) where it sold for CHF 1200 ($1380 including buyer's fee). The catalog description noted,
"Taler 1716. Gelblich-grüne Patina. Vorzüglich-FDC," (Zurich 1716 thaler, gold-green patina, extremely fine-uncirculated).
This type was struck in Zurich 1713-17 and was one of a series of thalers struck throughout the eighteenth century. Many of the later issues were "city view" thalers. The obverse legend, "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE," means "coin of the Republic of Zurich."
