Kunker sale 263, lot 1928
This specimen was lot 1928 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$7,751 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ZADAR (ital. ZARA) Unter französischer Herrschaft. 4 Francs 60 Centimes (1 Once) 1813, geprägt während der Belagerung durch österreichische Truppen. Mit den üblichen 3 Randpunzen. Attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (city of Zara, under French occupation, 4 francs and 60 centimes (1 ounce) of 1813, struck during the Austrian siege. Attractive extremely fine.)"
Dalmatia, long Venetian territory, fell to the Austrians in 1797, then to Napoleon's empire in 1807, then back to Austria 1813-1918. It is currently part of Croatia. During the siege mentioned above, the French struck one, two and four ounce pieces.
