Sincona sale 54, lot 247
This specimen was lot 247 in Sincona sale 54 (Zurich, May 2019), where it sold for 1,250 CHF (about US$1,488 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Würzburg, Bistum, Franz Ludwig von Erthal, 1779-1795. Neujahrs-Goldgulden 1779, Würzburg. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Wurzburg, Francis Louis of Erthal, 1779-95, New Year's goldgulden of 1779, Wurzburg mint. Good extremely fine.)"
Minting goldgulden for the New Year seems to have been something of a tradition in Wurzburg and several types of these exist.
