This specimen was lot 50133 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $458. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. 20 Mark, 1872-F. NGC AU-55." This twenty mark gold piece was struck was struck at the Freudenstadt mint (mintmark "F") for the kingdom of Wurttemberg in 1872-73. A later, slightly more common type, with a different reverse, was issued 1874 and 1876. This type is not rare.

Recorded mintage: 662,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 7.96 g, .900 fine gold, .230 troy oz AGW.
