Künker sale 293, lot 1410
This specimen was lot 1410 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €480 (about US$647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG-OELS, HERZOGTUM Karl Christian Erdmann, 1744-1792. Reichstaler preuß. 1785, B, Breslau. Mit Stempelschneidersignatur "K" (Anton König) auf der Vorderseite. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Tietjen + Co. 31, Hamburg 1979, Nr. 2291. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg-Oels, Charles Christian Erdmann, 1744-92, prussian thaler of 1785, Breslau mint, with engraver's initial "K" on the obverse. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"
This rather scarce thaler was issued by the last duke of Wurttemberg-Oels, whose line fell extinct on his death in 1792. As it was minted in Breslau, one presumes it was produced with the permission or at least the connivance of Frederick the Great, who conquered Silesia in the 1740's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 22.27 g, .750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2879; KM 88, Klein/Raff 195.
