Oels in Silesia in 1648
This specimen was lot 1631 in Sincona sale 18 (Zurich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 4,750 (about US$6,250 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Taler 1686. Bernstadt. Selten. Vorzüglich-fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Württemberg-Oels, thaler of 1686, Bernstadt mint, rare, extremely fine.)"
Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. This type, listed for 1686 only, was issued by the regent Elisabeth Maria for her sons. A junior branch of the duke of Wurttemberg resumed coinage of Munsterberg-Oels in 1674.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very rare.
