Sincona sale 31, lot 283

This specimen was lot 283 in Sincona sale 31 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Amin Bey (1362-1376ah/1943-1957ce). 20 francs 1954ce/1374ah AR RR -unc." This type was struck in small numbers 1945-55 for presentation by the Bey. As such, the SCWC consigns it to the catalog of Unusual World Coins. This issue was struck to the standard of the French twenty francs of 1935-36.
