Heritage sale 3032, lot 26130
Transylvania 1650 thaler rev H3032-26130.jpg

This specimen was lot 26130 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Georg Rakoczi II Taler 1650-NB, Nagybánya mint, VF. A lightly toned example with a significant flan flaw at 7 o'clock and noticeable reverse scratches. Both sides are lightly adjusted. A very rare issue but careful inspection of this lot is recommended." Like most coins of Transylvania, this type (struck 1650 along with seven other thalers) is rare and expensive. As Transylvania was never part of the Holy Roman Empire and was not at this point controlled by the Hapsburgs, we have not included it in the "silver thalers of Germany."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Resch-35, Dav-4748; KM-C281.
