This specimen was lot 4302 in Sincona sale 26 (Zurich, October 2015), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$5,827 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Gabriel Bathori, 1608-1613 Taler 1609. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1608 (?) geändert. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (principality of Transylvania, Gabriel Bathori, 1608-1613, thaler of 1609/8, very rare, very fine.)"
The princes of Transylvania were sandwiched between the Ottoman Empire to the south and the Hapsburg dominions to the west and attempted to maintain independence from both. The Hapsburgs reconquered Hungary from the Turks in the 1680's and ended Transylvanian autonomy. This type is listed for 1608-09 and is slightly better.
