Goldberg sale 93, lot 2398
Mexico G93-2398r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2398 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico: Guerrero. Peso, 1915 NGC About Unc. Taxco. Revolutionary coinage. Star before Peso and G. NGC graded About Uncirculated, Details (Surface Hairlines)." This coin was issued by the Zapatistas under conditions where they were unable to part the gold from the silver, so they simply minted the alloy they had. The legend "ORO 0.300" does not mean 30% gold but 0.30 grams of gold. The coin was small enough to avoid melting, unlike other Guerrero issues. See also the similar KM-674.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-672.
