Straits Settlements 1907-H 50 cents
This specimen was lot 1637 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it sold for $82.60. The catalog description noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AR 50 cents, 1907-H, surface hairlines, NGC graded About Unc details." This denomination was 13.57 g until 1905, then 10.10 g (1907-08), then 8.42 g (1920-21). None were issued after 1921. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya.
