Straits Settlements 1902 10 cents
This specimen was part of lot 23181 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $230. The catalog description noted, "A Mixed Nine Coin Grouping: 1/4 Cent 1898; Cent 1897; 10 Cents 1902 (two pieces); 20 Cents 1898; 50 Cents: 1898, 1903, and 1921 (two pieces). Coins grade Fine-AU. A Lot to be carefully studied." This ten cent piece is from a type issued for the Straits Settlements 1902-03. This type was issued 1909-10 in .600 fine silver (KM 21a). This date is common in circulated condition. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya.
