Steve Album sale 27, lot 1130
Straits Setts Alb27-1130r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1130 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: Victoria, 1867-1901, AE ½ cent, 1889. Virtually full red, one-year type (except for proofs), nice color and strike, NGC graded MS64 RB, R." The first half cent was struck in 1872-75 and 1883 and is scarce despite the large mintage. It was converted to bronze for the 1884 issue (KM 8a) and given a reeded edge for the 1889 issue (KM 15) when production for circulation ceased.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-15.
