This specimen was lot 24777 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $7,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria 5 Cents 1877, MS64 PCGS, a superb and fully original example of this rare date with rich russet and magenta patina blanketing lustrous surfaces. Highly elusive date in mint state and certainly among the finest known in this elite designation." The type was struck in 1871-1900 and many dates are common. Despite the ample mintage, this date is rare.
