Aureo sale 232, lot 318
The specimen shown was lot 318 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 700 euros (about US$1,155 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Fernando VII (1808-1833). 1819. Madrid. GJ. 4 escudos. Golpecito canto. Bellísima. Brillo original. Rara y más así. EBC+. (Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, four escudos of 1819, Madrid mint. Rim bump, very handsome, original luster, rare, choice extremely fine.)
This type was issued at Madrid 1814-20 and 1824 and is the last issue of the traditional gold four escudos. Unlike the four escudos of the Latin American mints, it is fairly common.

Specification: 13.54 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
