Aureo sale 261, lot 430
This specimen was lot 430 in Aureo y Calicó sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it sold for €95 (about US$152 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1788. Carlos III. Madrid. M. 4 reales. Escasa. MBC-/MBC. (Charles III, 1759-88, four reales of 1788, Madrid mint. Scarce, about very fine.)"
The Madrid mint struck this type 1772-84 and 1788. For 1788, two assayers are recorded, M (scarce) and MJ (common). Seville also contributed 1772-82 and 1788.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.896 fine silver, 0.390 troy oz ASW.
