Aureo sale 232, lot 208
The specimen shown was lot 208 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 250 euros (about US$413 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1785/75. Madrid. DV/PJ. 1 escudo. (Cal. falta). Rectificación muy rara, en el 1775 no existen escudos de Madrid. Bella. EBC+. (1785/75 escudo, Madrid mint, DV/PJ overassayer, very rare overdate as no escudos were struck in Madrid in 1775; choice extremely fine.)
This type was issued at Seville and Madrid 1772-85. In 1786, the fineness was reduced to .875. Assayer DV is recorded for 1785-87.

Specification: 3.38 g, .901 fine gold, .098 troy oz AGW.
