Spain H3064-33813r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33813 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip III Cob 4 Reales ND (1599-1600)-D AU55 NGC, Valladolid mint, The somewhat marred details of the obverse of this piece--some common of Spanish colonial cobs--should not distract from what is a genuinely gorgeous strike, especially as evinced by the glittering, crisp reverse." Altho this date is off the edge, Cayón reports this type for 1599-1600 along with issues from Segovia, Seville, Toledo, Valencia and Granada.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.73 g, .931 fine, this specimen 13.58 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón-4725; Calico-309 or 310.
