This specimen was lot 72771 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Real, ND (1469-1504)-S. Seville Mint. Ferdinand and Isabella. NGC AU-53. Gothic D assayer. Featuring a charming tone and a pleasing strike, this specimen is a decided cut above most encountered for the type. Immensely appealing, especially given the pedigree. Ex: Pittman Collection." Cayón devotes 133 catalog numbers to the various varieties of this type, struck at seven mints: Burgos, nos. 2618-2631, Coruña, nos. 2632-2639, Cuenca, nos. 2640-2653, Granada, nos. 2654-2674, Segovia, nos. 2675-2693, Seville, nos. 2696-2726, Toledo nos. 2731-2750. This example has a square D and an "S" on the obverse and six arrows in the bundle on the reverse. There are also 2, 4 and 8 reales with this design.
