Heritage sale 3042, lot 30609
S Africa H3042-30609r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30609 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V 1/2 Penny 1925 MS63 Brown NGC. An appealing example despite unusual surfaces, with bright mint red peeking from beneath a patchy blackened patina." For 1923-26, the denomination was expressed as "½ PENNY ½"; for 1928-31, this was shortened to "½ PENNY". In 1931, the reverse was modified to read "½ D" instead and struck in this form until 1936. Similar changes were effected on the farthing and penny. This is a better date but not rare.

Recorded mintage: 69,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM 13.1.
