Solms in 1786

This specimen was lot 32221 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "Solms-Laubach. Christian August Taler 1754-IMF MS64+ NGC. A beautifully toned coin commemorating the death of Count Christian August's third wife, Dorothea Wilhelmina. Darkly toned yet lustrous and subtly colorful, this almost certainly ranks among the finest known for this type. Being a commemorative, this type is often found in relatively good condition but this specimen still stands a head above most others. It is hard to imagine what one could find lacking in this lovely coin." A thaler exists (Dav-2780) for the death of the count's second wife.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2781; KM 25.
