This specimen was lot 35067 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $96. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sicily. Messina. 3 Tari, 1560. Philip III (1556-98). Scratches on the obverse. Toned. VERY FINE. From the Demarete Collection." The portrait is of Philip II of Spain. The Spanish Hapsburgs ruled Naples and Sicily as part of their Aragonese inheritance from the death of Ferdinand the Catholic in 1517 until the death of Charles II in 1700.
