This specimen was lot 1697 in Jean Elsen sale 116 (Brussels, March 2013), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,821 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, SICILE, Charles Quint (1516-1556), AV scudo d'oro, 1551, Messine. Droit: IMPERATO- AVGVSTVS Croix de saint André entre K-V, sous une couronne. En dessous, le bijou de la Toison d'or. Revers: (soleil) REX· SICILIE· 1551 Aigle éployée, tête à gauche. En dessous, M-A. Rare. Très Beau à Superbe (kingdom of Sicily, Charles V (1516-56), gold scudo d'oro of 1551, Messina mint. Obverse: St. Andrew's cross between K-V, crown above, jewel of the Golden Fleece below. Reverse: eagle displayed, head to left, M-A below. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"
