Sincona sale 25, lot 2082
This specimen was lot 2082 in Sincona sale 25 (Zurich, October 2015), where it sold for 12,500 CHF (about US$15,440 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Taler o. J. (about 1565). Altdorf Crowned double eagle surrounded by the three shields of arms. Rev. St. Martin as bishop on throne with crozier and mitr[e]. Very rare. Good very fine/Very fine to extremely fine. Small collector's punch in edge. St. Martin was born in Hungary about 315 and served as a Roman officer. He professed himself at an early date to Christianity and was anointed in 375 as Bishop of Tours. Ex Collection Köhlmoos, Auction Münzen und Medaillen AG 91, Basel 2001, lot 963."
St. Martin appears on several other Schwyz thalers, most notably Dav-8764.
