Sincona sale 57, lot 2739
This specimen was lot 2739 in Sincona sale 57 (Zurich, May 2019), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,131 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Herzogtum, Johann Adolf, 1590-1616. Taler 1611, Schleswig. Vorzüglich. Herrliche Patina. (Germany, duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, John Adolf, 1590-1616, thaler of 1611. Extremely fine, Most attractive patina.)"
The dynastic affairs of this duchy are complicated even by German standards as the dukes were related to the king of Denmark and even the czar of Russia. Most coin issues are rare. This example realized only one-third of its catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.96 g.

Catalog reference: KM 35, Lange 271 var. Dav-3690.
