This specimen was lot 20631 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2 Talers Off Metal Strike, 1857-B. NGC MS-63. Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. Struck in tin. Bust of Johann left with 'B' below; Reverse: 'DEM FLEISSE', with mining symbol below, within oak wreath, date below. Featuring a razor sharp strike and bright mirrored fields. VERY RARE." This type is a prize thaler given for academic achievement and not intended to circulate. It is listed in Davenport in his section on "pseudo-thalers".
