Saxony 1738 ducat Fr-2852a
"POLEN. August III. 1733-1763 Dukat 1738. Auf die Hochzeit seiner Tochter Maria Amalia mit König Karl von Sizilien. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Poland, Augustus III, 1733-63, ducat of 1738, on the marriage of his daughter Maria Amalia to king Charles of Sicily. Extremely fine.)"Altho the auction catalog listed this specimen under Poland, thinking to realize a higher bid, this ducat is properly listed under Saxony, where the SCWC has placed it. Freidberg does not mention it in the seventh edition, perhaps believing it a medal. It is accompanied by a gulden (KM 897).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, .986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, the first specimen 3.44 g, the second specimen 3.43 g.
