This specimen was lot 23907 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxony. Friedrich August Taler 1696-IK, AU50 NGC, beautifully toned and well struck for this type. Friedrich August was also king of Poland and known there as Augustus II. Therefore this type is in strong demand and sells for significant premiums. From The J.G. Collection." This type was minted 1695-98 and is rather rare.
