This specimen was lot 40555 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1660-CR. Bautzen Mint. NGC AU-53. Johann Georg II (1656-80). 1/4 Taler dies." This coin is noted as struck on quarter thaler dies; it must be four times as thick as normal to make the correct weight. The type is noted for 1660-66; in addition for 1660, conventional thalers exist (Dav-7617). Both types are scarce.
