This specimen was lot 4217 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,323. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Saxony. Klappmutzentaler, ND. Friedrich, Johann, Georg, 1508-1525. Bust right. Reverse: Facing busts. Mount removed at top and tooling in fields. Nice detail on busts. NGC graded About Uncirculated, Details (Surface Hairlines)." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. Davenport notes that this issue came from four mints without noting what are the mintmarks. This came from the Ernestine branch, not the Albertine branch.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-9709A.
