Kunker sale 263, lot 1154
This specimen was lot 1154 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €8,250 (about US$10,658 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich III. der Weise, Georg und Johann, 1500-1507. Taler o. J. Annaberg. Klappmützentaler. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, vorzüglich. (Electorate of Saxony, Frederick the Wise, George and John, 1500-07, undated "hooded" thaler, Annaberg mint. Very rare, especially in this quality, very attractive with handsome toning, extremely fine.)"
This is the first Saxon thaler not marked "Rare" tho the price realized here suggests otherwise. It was issued by the Ernestine branch of the Wettins, not the Albertine. The Ernestine branch splintered into the Saxon duchies after 1554.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-9707 B; Schnee 5.
