Kunker sale 263, lot 1263
This specimen was lot 1263 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €360 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, HERZOGTUM (Ernestiner nach dem Verlust der Kurwürde) Johann Friedrich II. Johann Wilhelm und Johann Friedrich III. 1554-1557. Taler o. J. Saalfeld. Winz. Henkelspur, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxony, after losing the electorate, John Frederick II, John William and John Frederick III, 1554-57, undated thaler, Saalfeld mint, mount mark, very fine.)"
This thaler varies from Dav-9745 by a slightly different reverse legend. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640.
