Saxe-Meiningen 1866 thaler rev Heritage 3010-22621.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 22621 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), which sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lot of Six German States Coins, ...Saxe-Meiningen Taler 1866.... Coins range in grade from VF to AU." Saxe-Meiningen is now part of Thuringia. This type, struck 1859-67, is fairly unusual but the harsh cleaning on this specimen relegated it to this bulk lot.

Recorded mintage: 40,356.

Specification: 18.52 g, .900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 167, Dav-838.
