The first specimen was lot 22382 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Taler, 1671-ABK. Ernst I (1640-75). PCGS Genuine--Damage, AU Details Secure Holder. Wedding scene with Jehovah above, rays descending on wedding couple; Reverse: Twelve line inscription. On the marriage of Prince Bernhard and Maria Hedwig of Hesse-Darmstadt. Damage confined to the reverse; a presentable example." The second specimen was lot 1297 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"SACHSEN, SACHSEN-GOTHA, HERZOGTUM, AB 1672 SACHSEN-GOTHA-ALTENBURG, Ernst der Fromme, 1640-1675. Reichstaler 1671, Gotha, auf die Vermählung seines zweiten Sohnes Bernhard mit Maria Hedwig, Tochter Georgs II. von Hessen-Darmstadt, am 20. November. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Gotha, Ernest the Pious, 1640-75, thaler of 1671, Gotha mint, on the marriage of his second son Bernhard with Maria Hedwig, daughter of George II of Hesse-Darmstadt, on 20 November 1671. handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
A baptism thaler (Dav-7453) is also recorded for 1671.
