This specimen was lot 30173 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $3,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sardinia. Carlo Alberto 2 Lire 1844 (Eagle)-P UNC Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Turin mint. An attractive offering with titanium-gray tone that promotes fully-rendered design elements and very minimal hairlining. This is a seldom encountered denomination, and despite the details assignment, still highly collectible." This type was struck at Turin (shown here) and Genoa 1833-49. Tho listed in the SCWC, there is no photo therein of this type or that of the succeeding two lire of Victor Emanuel II. On the rare occasions where this type turns up, it is usually well worn.
