Sincona sale 43, lot 2964
This specimen was lot 2964 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 6,250 CHF (aboout US$7,458 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Salzburg, Erzbistum, Matthäus Lang von Wellenberg, 1519-1540 Doppelter Guldiner 1521. Auf die Einweihung der Radianakapelle in Wellenberg. Selten. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Mathaus Lang, 1519-40, double guldiner of 1521, on the consecration of the new chapel at Wellenburg. Rare, Extremely fine, Attractive patina.)"
On the occasion of the opening of the new church, the archbishop issued a quadruple guldiner (Dav-A8155), a triple guldiner (-8155), a double guldiner (-8156, shown here) and a single guldiner (-8157).
