Sincona sale 39, lot 3778
modern s'Heerenberg in Gelderland
This specimen was lot 3778 in Sincona sale 39 (Zurich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"THE NETHERLANDS | S´Heerenberg, Friedrich von Bergh, 1577-1580 Taler zu 30 Stüber 1579. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Netherlands, county of Bergh, Frederick of Bergh, 1577-80, thaler of thirty stuivers of 1579. Rare. About very fine.)"
The count of Bergh (or s'Heerenberg) issued daalders and other silver coins in the fifteenth century before being absorbed into Gelderland, in which province the town still remains. We have filed this coin under Gelderland as the coinage of Bergh is too scanty to warrant its own page. Davenport assigns catalog numbers Dav-8606, A8607, -8607, -A8608 and -8608 to the daalders issued by the prince in 1579.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 23.54 g.

Catalog reference: Delmonte 611; Dav-A8607var.
