This specimen was lot 40763 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $7,344. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1865-CNB HO. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Deep, rich toning from long term paper storage. Some old hidden scuffs account for the grade. Tied for finest certified at NGC and PCGS." This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). This date is scarce but not rare. In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams.

Recorded mintage: 115,000.

Specification: 20.73 g, .868 fine silver.
