Künker sale 294, lot 5101
This specimen was lot 5101 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Paul I. 1796-1801. Rubel 1798, St. Petersburg. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (empire of Russia, Paul I, 1796-1801, ruble of 1798, St. Petersburg mint. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"
The SCWC records this product of the St. Petersburg mint (СПБ) for 1796-1801, with two mintmasters recorded for 1798. The type is not rare in circulated condition. The 1801 is recorded in Davenport as Dav-278 but is the same type. It is lighter than the ruble of Catherine II (Dav-1686) but higher in purity, resulting in the same amount of silver.

Recorded mintage: 3,279,000 (including all assayers).

Specification: 20.73 g, .868 fine silver, this specimen 20.84 g.

Catalog reference: KM-C101a; Bitkin 32, Dav-1688.
